Should we keep the Weston Forum private or open the forum for public viewing.

I vote private. I say someone should either be a part of us and join in, or go lurk on some other site.

I'm a little divided on this one. I think open might invite more posts because now it appears to a non-registered user there are no posts. Unregistered users see "Never" in the number of posts. They don't realize they are missing anything. I think make it open, or at least show the number of posts (if it's possible in the software) so they know there is something there.

To my surprise the question was posted before the poll appeared. You learn something new everyday.

Maybe just moving this thread to the General Forum is enough to let people know they should register to read the rest of the posts? :)

When a guest signs on they see the forum, they just can not read the post. If the try to enter the Weston Forum they should get a message to login or register. Underneath the forum the description will also indicate its private and can only be viewed as a registered user and a member of that forum.

I don't like the way the system works when it shows a private forum. It looks like the forum has never been used and no post are inside that forum. I will ask tech support if there is a way to show number of post, but still stop others from reading.

I don't think moving the forum or making it part of the general forum will make a difference. I could post an announcement to explain the various forums and some of the private forums. As a registered user DO YOU READ THE ANNOUNCEMENTS, and do you think guest will read them?

A little bit of work, but I think I have it working the way you mentioned.

When a unregistered user signs on he/she will now see under the last post column the word Private instead of Never, Also under the thread and post column the number of post and threads will appear.

The unregistered user will not be able to read the post until they join and request permission to join a private forum.

Thanks for the effort. Let's hope for more registered users.

I added a Sub-Forum to the Weston Forum called City Links.

City Links contains links to the City of Weston, and a few County and State Web Sites.

City Links is only for viewing and you are not allowed to post. If you would like a link added send me a PM with the information.

Other threads can be added like local websites, restaurants, stores, malls.

Let me know what you think.
