We have a friend who is putting them up. He did 2 houses in Savanna today. Give him a call. He is a nice guy and is dependable. . Rick 954-253-7990.

I just pulled the trigger on buying accordion shutters for the whole house. I hope I never need them! Now I need a drink to forget about the hole in my wallet.:(

Can you share the cost and number of openings included? I'm hearing anything from $8,000 to $15,000 for 24-27 openings.

The best way to compare is per square foot of covered area. Just measure all your openings and add up the area. It is best to have one big accordion shutter for fixed glass up high over another window so you don't need a ladder to shut the them, but this increases your sq ft to cover the entire area some of which will not be glass.

I received quotes that ranged from $18 sf to $16 sf and eventually talked the lowest bidder down to $14.50 sf. I don't think I left anything on the table at that price. Material delivery time is 90 days.

In the back of my home I opted for a little more expensive product called a Force12 wind screen that can only be used when there is an over head beam and concrete under the pavers. It takes 150 mph wind down to 5 mph, meets Dade code, and allows you to just move your outside furniture into the protected area. It also allows light in so you don't feel like you are living in a can. I will be having my next hurricane party in this area! This product runs $150 a linear foot and is non-negotiable in price. Because the windscreen eliminates the needs for a whole bunch of accourdians, the difference was marginal in my case.

The short answer is $8k sounds to low, more likely $10k to $15k depending on the sq ft.

That is a good price, the last offer I got was $15

If the space meets the qualifications, it is a great idea as it creates a "safe" room outside which makes storage of outside items convenient. Here (http://www.hendee.com/force12protection/index.htm) is more info on the product.

I had the same reservations and did some checking on installations that held up to Charlie. No breaches of any kind. There was one install that had a problem to a center pillar that had decorative stucco on the outside and the flexing of the screen cracked the outside of the stucco on the pillar. The screen itself held fine.

A little coconut rum at the hurricane party and that feeling will go away:D

Here's our rollups on the front entry and on the back patio. One shutter is closed. Photos were taken just after Wilma left the area. Most of the front flower bed ended up against the front shutter and on the back a piece of the gutter was riped off.

The rear patio shutters are about 14' square and three shutter close down the rear patio. We have to bring a few chairs inside the closed area but everything else stays in place.

Ordered them after the first time we had to install the original shutters on the house, about 8 yrs ago. We spent over 20K then and only did half the house. Money well spent.

Who did you buy them from? They did a nice job of making them blend in, unlike the other installations we've seen around here.

The key being - 20,000 over 8 years ago. I can't imagine what they would cost now. You get what you pay for. The roll ups are amazing. But probably cost more than a car to put in or a major addition on your home or a college education or.....

Thanks Donna. Did you deal directly with them or do they work through dealers?
