The eye is passing bye so Max had to go out. Looking around the neighbor to my West lost 1 panel hit our fence minor damage.
The house to the East lost most of the panels on their 2nd story on the south side.
Our palm trees in the front have lost most of the palm fronds.
Still have the second half of the storm to go.

Tubby, I hope that you guys are okay.
We've been on the phone with family all morning and it's a direct hit. Already lots of damage around my parents' house.
Tell me what it's like by you.

How scary for your neighbors. Were the panels installed by Arvida originally, using improper mounts for wood frames? Ours was, and we've been part of a class action suit for several years; still waiting to settle. I'm amazed our 2nd floor panels have survived this wind.

So far we are OK.
The winds have shifted out of the West so we are now getting the backside of the storm. We are hearing things hit the house and land on the roof. Winds are staying steady at 35+ MPH with gust over 60 MPH. Sounds like a war right now.
My mother called she lives in Plantation, lost all her pool enclosure.

After reading Tubby's message about his neighbor's panels blowing off, we heard some loud banging. I went upstairs to check it out, and two of the middle panels in my mother's bedroom have been damaged. One is missing, one is hanging on and bent up. I think the bolts just pulled right through the wood frame.
The winds seem stronger now than before, but it may just be the anxiety factor and low blood sugar....

Can't see outside and the winds are to strong, but it sounds like more panels are blowing my neighbors house.

Maintaining 60+ with last gust at 81.
From Doppler radar looks like another band is about to hit us. Which could be the last heavy band.

Looks like everyone has roof damage, and screen enclosures destroyed.
Remember to take pictures before doing or removing anything.

We have a few missing tiles. The patio survived except for one hole where a roof tile fell through. Very little damage, all things considered.
The Dish is pointing toward Pluto, so our reception sucks...
my neighbor's heavy wooden swingset/junglegym cartwheeled through my brand new fence, knocking it over and landing on my new landscaping. does anyone know if he is responsible for the damage since he didn't secure it properly? or is it my insurance company's problem? the fence is completely trashed now. bent all the way around after the one side got knocked down

This has to do with a neighbor's tree, but it might be similar to the swingset.
2)"The recent storms knocked down my neighbor's tree limb onto my property, causing damage to my house/car/lawn furniture."
Whether the tree limb had overhung the property does not matter. The neighbor is only responsible for negligence: If he was careless, he is responsible; if the damage was from an act of God, the neighbor is not responsible.
If a tree limb appeared precarious and the owner failed to maintain the tree after warnings, he is responsible for resulting damage when a storm causes the limb to fall. If the tree was well maintained and a storm knocked it down onto your roof, the neighbor is not responsible.
http://www.wwlaw.com/neighbor.htm
You might try to negotiate with the neighbor rather than sumitting to insurance; it might cause your rates to go up and you could get cancelled. It does seem that this was an act of "insert favorite diety here".
i kind of figured as much, but the moron left the tarp on top of the swingset, and it acted like a big sail. if he'd have just removed the tarp i doubt the thing would have lifted off like it did. it weighs a ton. i have no idea how i'm getting it out of my yard

I did remove the tarp and it didn't help....don't know what to do now
that's just what it looks like except it is one yard over and the fence is laying on its side
does anyone know if roof tiles blowing off are covered under the arvida new home warranty?

It appears you guys have power. I'm sorta in camping mode as we lost power yesterday around 7:00am. Most of the people in my community lost their screen enclosures altogether, but I only lost the screens. I lost the ridge row of roof tiles, and it knock down trees everywhere but we were lucky as not to get any on the house itself.
I'm setting out in my car typing this on DC power. Life is not happy time with a cold shower!!

You have water, a shower would be great.
We have power, and water is running at the rate of 8 oz per 5 mins. You have to schedule potty calls.

Latest from the ENP
South Florida Areas
Hurricane Wilma Recovery Operations Begin
Shark Valley is Closed as of this AM
The logistics chief and operations chief from the National IMT (JD Swed, IC) traveled to south Florida early Tuesday morning to gather information and deal with the logistical arrangements necessary to support the people needed to assist Everglades, Big Cypress, Biscayne and any other NPS units or cooperators/volunteers who need it. Updated damage assessments were received by the team, regional director and WASO on Tuesday morning. Some employees at Everglades, Big Cypress and Biscayne have still not been accounted for. Cellular communications and land phone lines are still spotty or non-existent and it's likely that employees are fine but still having trouble connecting with their park. Park staffs are working very hard to contact every NPS employee, volunteer and concession employee and check their condition. Tuesday morning's updates on the parks follow. Power, water and communications are still or spotty in all areas. Wind damage to roofs, structures, docks, power lines and downed trees are widespread throughout south Florida. The incident commander, plans chief, finance chief and safety officer traveled on Tuesday afternoon to join the team members at Everglades. The rest of the team will follow as soon as they can be supported logistically.

Hilly, it's in the 40s here tonight and I'm so sad that I'm leaving that I'm getting all choked up.
This feels awesome! Especially when we first step out on the porch in the morning, feel the cold air and see the leaves scattered all over the streets.
if you thing you're choked up now, wait till you step outside, feel the humidity, and see trees and lamposts scattered all over the street:(

Hey! We made it :) Whoo I just got back online today and got power back on Tuesday night. Water also came back Tues nite. We lost just about all the corner/edge/trim (I don't know the official name) roof tiles. Our tree did a number on the neighbor's roof and then literally took all of our landscaping w/ it as it fell onto their driveway. Our palms lost a few fronds, and our yard was littered w/ tree branches. Thank goodness we had shutters as I could hear my other neighbor's roof tiles hitting our windows. It was frightening, but we made it :) I missed you guys.

Will Weston ever look like it did before the storm?
YES!! I remember before Andrew (there I go again! :D ) Old Cutler Road (Yogamom, you know what I am talking about) was completely covered by a canopy of beautiful trees. After, it was totally bare and the trees were gone. Here we are 13 yrs later and the canopy is back, maybe not as thick but it will get there. People, let's get a hold of ourselves...this wasn't that bad.

Our HOA had a meeting last night and said all trees would be replaced as before, but we would be assessed for this cost. They were going to hire a company to come around and pick up all the debris, but I thought during Andrew some government agency provided that service:confused:

No thats just it. They said we would have to pay and the city / FEMA would not pay for removal of the piles on the street.

HOA are on private property, the city is only responible for city property. I will be checking to see if there is any kind of assitance for the HOA, after all Miami recieved FEMA dollars for a strom that was 100 miles away.

We definitely will. We're hoping to hear something about the house today.
I wish you the best of luck. You should expect to be missing some roof tiles, screen and possibly the whole screen structure, and trees. I doubt that they can find a repair company before closing, so just agree to value the damage and move on or it could be six months for the repairs.

Dumb luck! Generator destroyed when lit candle used to check fuel level
sun-sentinel.com
Two Broward residents narrowly escaped injury after causing a flash fire and destroying their portable generator Thursday night at a home near Fort Lauderdale, the Broward Sheriff's Office said on Friday.
One resident was attempting to re-fuel the generator in the dark on the 2900 block of Northwest Seventh Court and decided to peer into the gas tank using a burning candle for light. The flame from the candle ignited flammable gasoline vapors inside the tank causing a flash fire that destroyed the generator and created a serious risk to the adjacent structure.
Residents at the scene began to fight the fire with a garden hose. Broward Sheriff's Office Fire-Rescue personnel responded quickly to the scene.
There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

FPL indicated they will have to replace around 15,000 electric poles in 21 counties damaged by Hurricane Wilma. Shot Gun road needs 40 new poles, and Pompano Beach needs 350 poles.
Everyone I come in contact today seems stressed out and are being jerks. The ones that know I live in Weston and have had power are saying things like FPL is taking care of the rich first. People in Weston took the storm emotionally much better than those in Ft. Lauderdale.

That is understandable since we seem to be fairing the best. Also, I think that it might seem sometimes that the rich are being served first, but we have a business in Aventura. We employ a lot of people. We got our electrice back on last Wednesday. It saved our business and allowed us to employ people over the weekend. I would gladly have traded my electric here and sent it to our business.

That is ridiculous! The majority of Weston is NOT rich! The majority of Weston are normal, single family homes. Perhaps we have electricity back sooner than other communities because we are newer, and our lines are underground. My mom didn't lose power either because her lines are also underground (improvement made after Andrew) and she had power restored before me.

My sister in law just got her power back last night and she lives in Boca Raton. ??? They have a nice house, but everytime a breeze blows in they lose power. Last time they lost it for over a week too. You would think that the city would start to do something about it since they know of the problem.

Weston was planned well and we have definitely benefited from it and of course we are less stressed because of it. That is not our fault and does not make us rich. Maybe rich in the sense that we have a great community that can withstand such things. :D

I agree; although I think the reason that it was done in South Dade and my mom's area is that since Andrew blew everything away, FPL had to start from scratch anyway.

You are probably right about that. A whole community from scratch is going to be buried. But repairs are not. It would be too costly and an inconvenience too.

If they just restring the poles, it will all blow down next hurricane. I guess they believe this is the only one we will ever have.Nono

But would the general public be patient while they tore everything up and buried it. They would lose power, traffic would be tied up. It's like a lose/lose scenario.
