What are your favorite foods when attending open house / cocktail parties? What are your least favorite?
For some reason, people seem to avoid the veggie platters, but I love the broccoli and cauliflower. Fruits also seem unpopular.

I love those little cocktail franks in pastry dough. I don't eat anything processed all year long and I have a real party with those.
They're easy to make. You get a roll of crossaint dough, cut to appropriate size, wrap and bake. Use toothpicks and a center cup of mustard.
I buy the Boars Head brand of franks. I know they don't impress like caviar, smoked salmon on crackers, etc., but they are really good.
I make them for New Years Eve.

Costco has a box of 40 (I think) appetizers that you just heat and bake. We tried them once and enjoyed them.
My least favorite is caviar and pate. I've mistakenly tried appetizers that turned out to be liver.

They have a new seafood one we just picked up. Haven't tried it yet but the pictures on the box look appetizing.
They were giving away a cookbook of recipes using Costco products, at the Pines Island location yesterday. About 200 pages and very well done.

Hebrew National has a pack of 40? cocktail mini franks that are the perfect size for those, Yoga. They are sold at Publix.

I was there yesterday and received the cookbook. Let us know how the seafood one is.

I've had both and prefer Boar's Head. The best were Shofar but Publix doesn't carry them anymore.

Anything on a stick. :)
OMG, have you ever been to the Minnesota State Fair in Minneapolis? They have EVERYTHING on a stick, and most of it's fried! I even had macaroni and cheese on a stick once.

The Texas State Fair has fried twinkies on a stick.

You know, I was going to mention that one, too, but didn't for fear of getting some sex-crazed comments in return. Then I remembered Julio wasn't here, so I felt safe. We tried the batter-covered twinkie deep-fried on a stick, but came to the universal conclusion that it was a great idea but poorly executed for logistical reasons.
The stick for any deep fried something-or-other generally goes up the center of whatever it is being fried. ie: steak strips, a wad of macaroni and cheese, a huge oreo cookie, a donut, etc. Well, what's in the center of a twinkie? That's right.... some processed franken-food substance made to look like a cream-filled pastry.
So, what happens when that fake-cream gets super-heated in hot oil? Yup... turns into a liquid-y franken-swirl. Now, when you try to take a bite of it, there is nothing solid for the stick to support because the only point of contact is a little bit of twinkie at the top and bottom, and maybe a sliver of fried dough on the stick. (Yes, I've spent too much time analyzing this, but it was such a disappointment that first time.)
All in all, I was not impressed. Now... the PORKCHOP on a stick! WOO HOO!
