not that i watch figure skating but it is news
TORINO -- Michelle Kwan wasn't selfish for trying to skate in one last Olympics. At least no more selfish than any other athlete ever is.
Kwan is a nine-time U.S. champion and a five-time world champion. She's the most decorated figure skater in U.S. history. She was the face of figure skating during the sport's highest popularity. Yet, what we constantly brought up was how she had never won an Olympic gold medal, that her career was incomplete without it.

I was glad to see they're sending someone else to replace her. It would be ashame if someone lost their spot to compete and then she never competed.

Kwan has been pissing me off big time lately. She never should have particpated this time around and instead should have given her spot to someone else. That Hughes girl could've participated in the opening ceremonies had it not been for Kwan.

I don't think she wanted to participate and they put pressure on her to go and give it her best shot. It all about MONEY !!!!!!
It would have been nice for the Hughes girl to attend the opening ceremonies, but she will be happy to get a shot at the winning gold.

Well, I hope you're right, but I just don't think so. From what I've seen, she's (Kwan) the one who wanted to do everything she did to secure a spot.
That said, I love the Winter Games, but really can't get into the figure skating too much.
