Today I notice a memorial had been set up along SR84 west bound just before Arvida. I ride by there six or seven times a week and just noticed it today. It is a hockey stick, referee whistle, puck, and CCM key chain lashed to a Drive Carefully sign. On the sign there is a sticker that says In Memory of Stephane Provost. Stephane was an NHL referee killed in a motorcycle accident here in April. As I type this I am looking at a trophy display containing some of the game pucks Stephane give to me. May he (#72) rest in peace.
Hockey Mourns Loss

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the NHL Officials Association regretfully reports that one of the members of their family, veteran NHL linesman Stephane Provost, born in Montreal and residing in Florida, has passed away from injuries suffered in a fatal motorcycle accident in Florida on Friday, April 22, 2005.
Stephane joined the NHL Officiating Staff in September of 1994 and worked his first NHL Game on January 25th, 1995. Stephane was the consummate professional, a hardworking, dedicated NHL Official, but even more important a good friend, good man, and loving father and husband. Stephane, 37, is survived by his wife, Sandra, and daughters Ashley and Reily.
"Since his debut in the NHL, Stephane strived for and achieved excellence as an NHL linesman," said Colin Campbell, the league's Executive Vice-president and Director of Hockey Operations. "We extend our deepest sympathies to Sandra and his family."
Stephane worked 695 National Hockey League Regular Season games, including 72 in the 2003-2004 season. He was also selected to work the Stanley Cup Playoffs, a true indication of his skill, perseverance and dedication to hockey. Stephane was one of the most likeable and cherished members of our Officiating Family, a true team guy who never put himself ahead of the team or the game, always happy, upbeat and positive. It was an honour to work with him and our privilege to have known him as a person.
The NHL Officials Association and all of its members and families would like to extend their deepest sympathies to Stephane's wife Sandra, his daughters Ashley and Reily, and all of his family and friends. Stephane will be missed by all. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you at this very difficult time.
Donations would be graciously appreciated and can be sent to ....
